Motocross is an extreme sport?
?outdoor motocross races occur in the heat of the day at for 30 minutes plus 2 laps, riding in full gear at lactate threshold for the entire time?
??armpump? can be a serious, painful problem when racing?
?dangerous levels of dehydration are extremely common?
?and in this BenGreenfieldFitness phone app insider interview with Wil, you?ll find out what kind of fitness and nutrition plan is necessary to succeed in one of the toughest sports on the face of the planet. Wil and I compare Ironman triathlon to motocross, talk about Wil?s motocross fitness routine, what Wil eats and drinks for motocross, tracking heart rates, racing with an injury, and more!
Don?t believe that motocross is an extreme sport that ?just might beat up your body more than any other sport??Then watch this?crazy crash sequence video with Wil Hahn, and then keep reading for a motocross fitness routine?
An Extreme Fitness Routine
Motocross requires a combination of coordination, strength, power and extreme lactic acid buffering capabilities. To build this kind of extreme fitness, try?the following full body exercise routine, performed three times per week.
-5-10 minute dynamic warm-up (Don?t know what a dynamic warm-up is? Read this mobility article.)
-3-4 sets of 6-10 reps of each of the following, performed as either a circuit for an extreme twist, or with 60 seconds to 2 minutes recovery after each exercise for a more traditional approach (get exercise videos at YouTube.com/BenGreenfieldFitness)
Vertical Pulling (i.e. pull-up)
Vertical Pushing (i.e. overhead press)
Horizontal Pulling (i.e. seated row)
Horizontal Pushing (i.e. incline bench press)
Double or Single Leg Strength (i.e. squat)
Lift (i.e. deadlift)
3-4 sets of 6-10 reps of any or all of the following, performed as either a circuit, or with 60 seconds to 2 minutes recovery after each exercise:
Slams (i.e. medicine ball slams)
Throws (i.e. medicine ball throws)
Tosses (i.e. medicine ball underhand throws)
Jumps (i.e. double leg box jumps)
Finish with 3 sets of 12-15 reps, back-to-back, of each of the following:
Twists (i.e. cable torso twists)
Core flexion (i.e. hanging leg raises)
Then, at a separate time of day, or on your ?non-lifting? day, do 20-30 minutes of high intensity interval training, which would include treadmill or cycling intervals, rowing, swimming, sprint repeats etc., preferably with time lengths of 20-60 seconds and rest intervals of 10-30 seconds.
Assuming you?re also practicing or playing a sport, this routine is more than enough to get you fit fast.
If you?re not practicing or playing a sport, you may want to add in a 2-4 extra 30-60 minute ?tempo? or aerobic workouts.
After you take a listen to the interview (using the free?BenGreenfieldFitness phone app), or after you try the motocross fitness routine, leave your questions, comments and feedback below.

KING OR QUEEN?
Royal officials can't say ? and it's not because they are being coy, it's because?Kate?and William have not found out ? and don't plan to.
"They don't know the sex of the baby and have decided not to find out," said a royal official who spoke on condition of anonymity under Palace guidelines for distributing information to the press.
PACING THE HALLWAY OR IN THE ROOM WITH HIS WIFE?
Officials said William "fully intends to be present at the birth." The birth is expected to take place at the private Lindo Wing of St. Mary's hospital in central London. That is the hospital where William and his younger brother, Prince Harry, were born.
WHO'S IN CHARGE?
A spokesman said the medical team will be led by royal gynecologist Dr. Marcus Setchell.
WILL THE PUBLIC KNOW WHEN?KATE?IS ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL?
Officials said there will be no advance notice. The public will be told once she has settled in her room in the early stages of labor, the spokesman said, anticipating that this would be within an hour of her arrival at the hospital.
HOW WILL PEOPLE FIND OUT THAT AN HEIR TO THE THRONE HAS BEEN BORN?
Through a mix of tradition and social media. Officials said a royal aide will emerge from the hospital with a signed bulletin on foolscap-sized paper carrying the Buckingham Palace letterhead. The bulletin will be given to an official who will be driven to the Palace, where it will be posted on an easel in public view in front of the building. At the same time the bulletin is posted, there will be an announcement on Twitter and the media will be formally notified. The document will give the baby's gender, weight and time of birth.
AND THE NAME?
Not so fast. Officials said they don't know how quickly a name will be chosen. When William was born, it took a week before his name was announced.
VISITING HOURS?
Officials said royals and members of the?Middleton?family are likely to visit, but Queen Elizabeth II is not expected to visit at the hospital because she will be on her summer vacation at the Balmoral estate in Scotland.
WHERE'S DADDY?
William plans to take two weeks paternity leave and then return to his military duties as a search and rescue helicopter pilot in Wales.
WASHINGTON (AP) ? A former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is under investigation for allegedly leaking classified information about a covert cyberattack on Iran's nuclear facilities, according to media reports.
Retired Marine Gen. James "Hoss" Cartwright has been told he is a target of the probe, NBC News and The Washington Post reported Thursday. A "target" is someone a prosecutor or grand jury has substantial evidence linking to a crime and who is likely to be charged.
The Justice Department referred questions to the U.S. attorney's office in Baltimore, where a spokeswoman, Marcia Murphy, declined to comment.
The investigation of the leak about the Iran cyberattack is one of a number of national security leak investigations that have been started by the Obama administration, including ones involving The Associated Press and Fox News.
In June 2012, the New York Times reported that Cartwright was a crucial player in the cyber operation called Olympic Games, started under President George W. Bush.
Bush reportedly advised President Barack Obama to preserve Olympic Games.
According to the Times, Obama ordered the cyberattacks sped up, and in 2010 an attack using a computer virus called Stuxnet temporarily disabled 1,000 centrifuges that the Iranians were using to enrich uranium.
Congressional leaders demanded a criminal probe into who leaked the information, and Obama said he had zero tolerance for such leaks. Republicans said senior administration officials had leaked the details to bolster the president's national security credentials during the 2012 campaign.
The Times said Cartwright was one of the crucial players who had to break the news to Obama and Vice President Joe Biden that Stuxnet at one point had escaped onto the Internet.
An element of the program accidentally became public in the summer of 2010 because of a programming error that allowed it to escape Iran's Natanz plant and sent it out on the Internet, the Times reported. After the worm escaped onto the Internet, top administration officials met to consider whether the program had been fatally compromised.
Obama asked if the program should continue, and after hearing the advice of top advisers, decided to proceed.
Cartwright, a four-star general, was cleared in February 2011 of misconduct involving a young aide. An anonymous accuser had claimed Cartwright acted inappropriately during a 2009 overseas trip on which the aide traveled as a military assistant. Several sources confirmed that the former aide was a young woman.
The Pentagon inspector general quickly cleared Cartwright of the most serious allegations, which involved claims that he may have had an improper physical relationship with the woman. The report did find that Cartwright mishandled an incident in which the aide, drunk and visibly upset, visited his Tbilisi, Georgia, hotel room alone and either passed out or fell asleep on a bench at the foot of his bed. Cartwright denied any impropriety and was later cleared of all wrongdoing.
Cartwright, once considered the leading candidate to become Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, resigned from the military in August 2011.
NBC said Cartwright did not respond to request for comment and that his attorney, former Obama White House counsel Greg Craig, said he had no comment.
The swearing-in Thursday of Kevin Rudd as Australia?s Prime Minister ? for the second time ? is a political coup worthy of Game of Thrones and takes place just over three years after he was ousted by previous incumbent Julia Gillard in a manner identical to the way in which she came to power. On Wednesday, Rudd emerged from a snap Labor Party leadership ballot?(known in Australia as a spill) with a resounding 57-45 victory over Gillard, who called for the vote following months of speculation that she was losing support within the party and across the country. Polls have been consistently predicting a Labor rout, should Gillard remain at the party helm during the national elections in September.
Rudd will now fight that election and is under no illusions about the enormity of the task that lies ahead of him. At a packed late-night press conference in the capital, Canberra, on Wednesday evening, he conceded that the Labor government?s future ?is not guaranteed.? But the second-time Prime Minister is a master campaigner. During last night?s acceptance speech, he got straight down to business, wooing young voters by empathizing with their view of the political system as a ?huge national turn off,? and courting heartland voters with the promise of ?a big future for Australian manufacturing.? Projections show that he could even the odds of a Labor victory ? and even tip them in his favor ? if he brings the election forward to cash in on his honeymoon period with the electorate.
Rudd proved to be an utterly dysfunctional leader in his first term in office. His ill-fated attempt to introduce a mining industry super-profits tax two months before his ousting in 2010 saw $16 billion wiped off the share market value of Australian mining companies and sparked a war with the powerful Minerals Council of Australia. Rudd?s concurrent decision to postpone the emissions trading scheme ??one of his key campaign promises in 2007 ??left him looking spineless.
Yet it was Rudd?s inability to work with others that ultimately cost him the Prime Ministership. Environment Minister Tony Burke described Rudd?s leadership style as ?chaotic,? ?undermining? and hamstrung by ?micromanagement.? Federal Labor member Simon Crean said Rudd put ?his own self-interest ahead of the interests of the broader labor movement and the county as a whole.? Added former attorney general Nicola Roxon: ?We need to lance this boil.?
So why does he remain such a popular public figure?
?That is the irony of this,? says Professor Zareh Ghazarian from the School of Political and Social Inquiry at Monash University. ?What we have seen over the past few years is that voters seem to have forgiven Rudd for his errors the first time around, and think he was hard done by when he was ousted by his own party in 2010. Australians are all about giving people a ?fair go? and since Rudd didn?t get that the first time around, voters seem to want to give him a second chance.?
However, with the Labor Party in disarray following the departure last night of a number of high-profile ministers and apparatchiks, Rudd 2.0 will be a harder sell. His new team may also face a backlash from female voters displeased with the unceremonious 11th-hour dumping of Australia?s first female Prime Minister.
Emerging red-eyed a few hours after the defeat, Gillard made a dignified valediction speech and wished her former colleagues success. She also lambasted the opposition for an appalling string of sexist attacks. In 2007, Liberal Senator Bill Heffernan said Gillard was not fit to lead the country because she had chosen not to have children and was thus deliberately ?barren.? Earlier this month, a dish on the menu at a $1,000-a-head Liberal fundraising lunch was described as ?Julia Gillard Kentucky Fried Quail ??Small Breasts, Huge Thighs and a Big Red Box.? And only hours before the leadership spill ?on Wednesday?, ?Liberal? frontbencher Christopher Pyne compared ?Gillard? to Lady Macbeth?.? ?Being the first female Prime Minister does not explain everything about my prime ministership, nor does it explain nothing,? Gillard said. ?What I am absolutely confident of is it will be easier for the next woman, and the woman after that and the woman after that, and I am proud of that.?
She went on to list her administration?s achievements: reforms in health and public schooling, a new disability-care regime, the introduction of carbon pricing and Australia?s contribution to the war in Afghanistan. Missing was her government?s failure to contain a wave of 25,000 asylum seekers that has crossed Australia?s maritime border in the past 12 months (despite the vast sums spent on the problem). Then there?s the economy. Australia has been enjoying the sort of solid economic growth that nearly every other government in the developed world would envy, but the nation hasn?t forgiven Gillard and her outgoing treasurer Wayne Swan for promising to balance the budget. Last December, Swan even promised a small surplus. But when the numbers were crunched last month, Australia woke up to a $16.5 billion national debt and an admission from Swan that the country will remain in the red for at least another decade.
Opposition leader Tony Abbott of the Liberal Party has made easy political capital of the Labor bloodletting, saying that the nation was fed up of the ruling party?s political skullduggery. ?You deserve better than this,? he said to voters, positioning his center-right coalition as the organization to ?stop the boats [of asylum seekers], to abolish the carbon tax and the mining tax and to get the budget back into the black.?
Rudd has the rest of the Australian winter to persuade the electorate otherwise. If he fails, it may well be the end of his political career. ?Rudd doesn?t have strong Labor Party links,? Ghazarian says. ?His position is brittle and is totally dependent on the public?s support. As soon as that goes, Labor will once again get rid of him. He will see out his terms as a backbencher and then disappear from the public gaze.?
You only live twice, as the song goes. Even if you?re the political phoenix that is Kevin Rudd.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? Microsoft is using a three-day conference this week to give people a peek into Windows 8.1, a free update that promises to address some of the gripes people have with the latest version of the company's flagship operating system. A preview version of Windows 8.1 was released Wednesday at the start of the Build conference for Microsoft partners and other technology developers.
Although many of the new features have been shown off already, the conference offers the company a chance to explain some of the reasoning behind the update and sell developers on Microsoft's ambitions to regain relevance lost to Apple's iPad and various devices running Google's Android software.
There's also speculation that Microsoft could show off a new, smaller version of its Surface tablet computers.
Windows 8, which was released Oct. 26, was meant to be Microsoft's answer to changing customer behaviors and the rise of tablet computers. The operating system emphasizes touch controls over the mouse and the keyboard, which had been the main way people have interacted with their personal computers since the 1980s. But some people have been put off by the radical makeover. Research firm IDC blamed Windows 8 for accelerating a decline in PC shipments worldwide.
Microsoft's event is taking place at The Moscone Center in San Francisco. The keynote kicked off shortly after 9 a.m. PDT.
Here's a running account of the event, presented in reverse chronological order. All times are PDT.
Presenters include CEO Steve Ballmer; Julie Larson-Green, corporate vice president for Windows; and Antoine Leblond, corporate vice president for Windows Web Services.
___
10:10 a.m.
Windows 8.1 will update apps automatically, and the Bing search engine will recommend new ones for you based on what you've used before.
Windows 8.1 also supports 3-D printing. On stage, Leblond prints a vase using a MakerBot device.
___
9:50 a.m.
As previously announced, Windows 8.1 offers more ability to run multiple apps at once. With Windows 8, you can have two ? one taking two-thirds of the screen, and the other the remaining third. The update no longer constrains you to that split, restoring functionality available with past versions of Windows. You're also no longer constrained to just two apps.
___
9:45 a.m.
Larson-Green says Windows 8.1 revamps search so that it's not just a list of links, but all the things you can do. Search for a band, and you get that band's music along with cover art and links to its website. You can hear a snippet through Xbox Music if you don't already own that song.
Windows 8.1 also has picture editing built in and the ability to do a video chat over Skype from the lock screen. You can also see a slideshow of your photos from that screen. She says Microsoft is making all programs much easier to get to.
There's also a hands-free mode, which can be useful while cooking. Instead of touching the device with messy hands, Microsoft says, you simply wave your hand over the camera to flip through a recipe.
___
9:35 a.m.
Larson-Green demonstrates Windows 8.1 on stage. She says having an update just eight months after Windows 8's launch shows how responsive the company's engineering team has become. The update, she says, "refines the vision of Windows 8."
There's a new start screen for smaller devices such as Acer's 8.1-inch tablet. An on-screen keyboard pops up from the bottom, with gesture controls added. Suggestions come up as you type; to choose one, you can slide a figure across the space bar and tap. Another gesture lets you more easily enter numbers by sliding your finger.
The email app has a new sweep command to delete all but the latest newsletter, for instance.
___
9:25 a.m.
One of the shortcomings of Windows tablets is a lack of apps for them. Ballmer says that's changing. He says Facebook, for instance, is now making an app for Windows 8. There are also fantasy football apps coming from the NFL.
The crowd cheered as Ballmer mentions some of the previously announced features coming to Windows 8.1.
That includes the ability to have machines automatically start up in the older, desktop mode rather than a tablet-style, full-page start screen that Microsoft has been pushing with Windows 8. Windows 8.1 will also restore a Start button on the lower left corner of the screen, although it will work differently in bringing people to the full-page start screen rather than the Start menu found in previous versions of Windows. He also talks about new search functions, using Microsoft's Bing search technology.
___
9:15 a.m.
Ballmer announces new phones from Nokia running a phone version of Windows software.
He also talks about a smaller Windows tablet than the ones previously available with Windows 8. The new Acer Iconia has a screen that measures 8.1 inches diagonally. He says Microsoft and its partners had to do a lot of work to "bring the small tablet form factor to life." Ballmer says customers should expect many smaller Windows tablets to come. That will allow Windows to compete with popular small tablets such as Apple's iPad Mini and Google's Nexus 7.
___
9:05 a.m.
Ballmer appears on stage to welcome 6,000 people at the conference and an estimated 60,000 watching live on a webcast. The audience includes hardware vendors and software developers.
Ballmer warns that Microsoft won't be talking much about the Xbox, Skype and Office 365, as there have been recent announcements on those. Rather, he's there to talk about Windows and related services. He says the announcements he has planned underscore Microsoft's transformation to "an absolutely rapid-release cycle."
A preview version of the upcoming Windows 8.1 was made available at the start of the conference at http://preview.windows.com
When The Food Network yanked Paula Deen's shows and replaced them with programs by Giada De Laurentiis, the chef felt the backlash.
Giada stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Tuesday, where she dished on being in caught in the middle of Deen's N-word controversy.
"Her shows got replaced by my shows, so we have a lot of people not happy with me right now, as if I had anything to do with it," Giada told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover.

Deen supporters have taken to Twitter and Facebook over the issue, telling the chef she needs to defend her fellow celebrity chef, but Giada stressed that she is not getting involved when she doesn't know all the facts of the situation.
"That's what everyone on social media wants me to do, to make comments, [to] stand up for her. The problem is, you need to do your homework first, you need to have all the facts before you say anything - especially in a situation like this," she explained. "Paula has been nothing but wonderful to me over the years.

Adding, "I know her as a kind woman. I don't know what happened and this happened awhile back, so I don't know what happened so I'm not going to make a comment based on ignorance. That is not a good thing to do."
Giada explained that she never witnessed Deen using the N-word.
"I do know her family and we've worked together many times... I've never been in the presence of that," she said. "I think this was a shock to many of us on the network."

Practical approach makes new ESC cardiac pacing and resynchronization guidelines accessible to allPublic release date: 25-Jun-2013 [ | E-mail | Share ]

Greater emphasis has been placed on a practical 'how to' approach targeted at generalists, including GPs and geriatricians, as well as expert cardiologists and electro physiologists
Athens-- The 2013 ESC Guidelines on Cardiac Pacing and Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy developed in collaboration with the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA), have created a new classification system for bradyarrhythmias according to mechanisms rather than aetiology. The guidelines, presented at the EHRA EUROPACE meeting 23-26 June in Athens, Greece, and published simultaneously in the European Heart Journal and Europace, have been redesigned to offer a more accessible format for users. Greater emphasis than ever before has been placed on a practical 'how to' approach targeted at generalists, including GPs and geriatricians, as well as expert cardiologists and electro physiologists.
"By taking this user friendly approach we hope to get our messages out to the wider medical community, which ultimately should allow more patients to benefit from the latest evidence-based medicine," explained Michele Brignole (Ospedali del Tigullio, Italy), Chairperson of the Guidelines on Cardiac Pacing and Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Task Force.
The 2013 guidelines, revised for the first time since 2007, were developed with input from 70 clinicians, including an expert Task Force of 18 cardiologists specializing in cardiac pacing and resynchronization, a further 26 experts in the field who reviewed the document, with the entire process overseen by the ESC Committee for Practice Guidelines (CPG).
The first part of the guidelines explores indications for pacing in patients who have cardiac arrhythmias. The second part looks at indications for cardiac resynchronization therapy in heart failure. The third part includes indications for pacing in specific conditions, such as acute MI, pacing after cardiac surgery, TAVI and heart transplantation, and pacing in children and individuals with congenital heart diseases. Finally, the guidelines explore management considerations such as re implantation after device explanation for infection, magnetic resonance imaging in patients with implanted cardiac devices, emergency (transvenous) temporary pacing and remote management of arrhythmias and devices.
The new ESC Guidelines take into account whether the patient has a persistent problem, or whether it is intermittent, and whether it has been documented with electrocardiographic evidence (ECG documented) or not (ECG-undocumented). Until now, guidelines have classified bradyarrhythmias according to aetiology, for example whether the problem has been caused by sinus node dysfunction, myocardial infarction (MI), or bundle branch block.
"One of the big innovations of these guidelines is the development of a logical decision tree displaying the different pacing modes according to different clinical situations. In effect these guidelines take the clinician by the hand and lead them through a series of three or four questions," explained Professor Perry Elliott (The Heart Hospital, London, UK) a member of the Guidelines committee.
With over 90 major studies on pacing and resynchronization published since the last guidelines, the Task Force went to considerable efforts to integrate the latest research. In areas where evidence is open to more than one interpretation, the guidelines provide information to help clinicians make a decision. For example, in patients with heart failure and poorly controlled symptoms, where choices have to be made between CRT pacemakers and CRT defibrillators, trials have had little to add to the decision making process. "Clinicians have to consider factors such as expected life expectancy and comorbidities when choosing between pacemaker and defibrillator therapy, said Prof Elliott.
These guidelines are the first ESC Guidelines ever to incorporate a new section called 'Clinical perspectives'. "This section gives advice on how to apply guidelines in real life clinical situations, taking into account things like what to do when patients have co morbidities or are taking concomitant drugs," explained Prof Brignole.
The abridged pocket version of the guidelines, due to be launched at the main ESC Congress in Amsterdam, 31st August to 4 September 2013, should further simplify the guidelines and make them accessible to an even wider audience.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Americans' confidence in the economy rose to its highest level in more than five years, bolstered by a more optimistic outlook for hiring.
The Conference Board, a New York-based private research group, said Tuesday that its consumer confidence index jumped to 81.4 in June. That's the best reading since January 2008. And it is up from May's reading of 74.3, which was revised slightly downward from 76.2.
Consumers' confidence in the economy is watched closely because their spending accounts for about 70 percent of U.S. economic activity.
The report shows consumers are more positive about current economic conditions and have a more optimistic view of the economy and job market in the next six months.
Lynn Franco, director of economic indicators at the Conference Board, said that "suggests the pace of growth is unlikely to slow in the short-term, and may even moderately pick up."
Employers added 175,000 jobs in May, nearly matching the average monthly gain for the past year. That's enough to slowly lower the unemployment rate. The rate ticked up to 7.6 percent last month but has fallen 0.6 percentage points in the past year.
More Americans see signs of hiring taking place. Nearly 12 percent describe the number of jobs available as "plentiful," the most since September 2008.
And nearly 20 percent of consumers expect there will be more jobs in six months, while only 16.1 percent expect fewer jobs. That's the first time those expecting more jobs have outnumbered those expecting fewer since February 2012.
Rising home prices are also likely making Americans feel wealthier and more confident about spending. Home prices jumped 12.1 percent in April compared with a year ago, according to the Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller home price index, also released Tuesday.
Slightly more consumers said they planned to buy a car in the next six months. The percentage saying they planned to buy a home also ticked up.
Americans have been resilient this year, despite tax increases and steep government spending cuts. Consumer spending rose at the fastest pace in two years in the first three months of the year. That helped the overall economy grow at a 2.4 percent annual pace during the January-March quarter.
Economists forecast that overall economic growth is slowing to a 2 percent annual pace in the April-June quarter, in part because they expect consumers have eased up on spending from the robust first-quarter pace.
Despite the recent gains, the confidence index remains well below the 90 reading that indicates a healthy economy ? a level it hasn't reached since the Great Recession began in December 2007.
So far, reports on consumer spending for the second quarter have been mixed. In April, consumer spending fell as income was unchanged. But spending appears to have rebounded in May, based on a preliminary report on retail sales. Americans spent more on cars, home improvements and sporting goods, boosting retail sales 0.6 percent.
The Commerce Department will release a more complete report on May consumer spending and income on Thursday.
The Conference Board survey is conducted in the first half of the month. So the June report didn't capture the impact of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's comments last week after the Fed's policy meeting.
Bernanke said the Fed could begin to slow its bond purchases by the end of the year. Since then, stocks have plunged and interest rates have spiked.
Jumping back into the dating world after a divorce can seem incredibly daunting, but with a little guidance, divorc?s can enter the dating pool with ease.
Relationship expert Tamsen Fadal stopped by The Talk on Monday to offer up some advice to make dating post-divorce a little less stressful.
One of the most important things Fadal advises is to start dating on your own time, and not feeling pressured if your ex enters the dating pool first.
"A lot of times we're paying attention to what our ex is doing after that breakup happens, wondering who he's with, if he's seeing somebody," she said. "It's not a contest to see who gets out there first...You date when you are ready to get back out there and not before."
Fadal isn't the only relationship expert who suggests waiting until you're ready before dating again. Marni Battista, relationship coach and founder of Dating with Dignity, teaches that being able talk about your ex without immediately putting him or her down is a good indication that you are ready for a new romance.
To hear more of Fadal's advice for divorc?s looking to date again -- including how long you should wait before becoming intimate -- check out the full clip above. Then click through the slideshow below to see what celebrities have had to say about dating after divorce.
Jennie Garth
Peter Facinelli <a href="http://www.tmz.com/2012/03/28/peter-facinelli-divorce-jennie-garth/">filed for divorce</a> from Jennie Garth in March 2012, after <a href="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20582221,00.html">11 years of marriage </a>and three children together. In November 2012, the former "90210" actress sat down with Jeff Probst to <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/02/jennie-garth-divorce-actr_n_2066981.html">discuss her newly single status</a>. "The minute I think I?m ready to start dating I?m like, 'Oh no you?re not,'" <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/02/jennie-garth-divorce-actr_n_2066981.html">she told the host</a>. "I just don't know how to date," <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/02/jennie-garth-divorce-actr_n_2066981.html">she later admitted</a>. But apparently Garth is learning the ropes once again. She is rumored to be dating <a href="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20663930,00.html">Big Giant drummer Jeremy Salken. </a>
Louis C.K.
Louis C.K. and painter Alix Bailey <a href="http://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/louis-ck-5-things-you-dont-know-2012219">divorced in 2008</a>. In a 2010 interview with <a href="http://www.npr.org/2010/07/07/128343426/comedian-louis-c-k-finding-laughs-post-divorce">NPR's Terry Gross</a>, the comedian opened up about <a href="http://www.npr.org/2010/07/07/128343426/comedian-louis-c-k-finding-laughs-post-divorce">his experience dating again</a> after the split.
"You sort of feel like you just got out of prison," <a href="http://www.npr.org/2010/07/07/128343426/comedian-louis-c-k-finding-laughs-post-divorce">C.K. explained. </a>"And they give you the suit you were convicted in. And they give you a paper bag with a watch and a wallet in it. And they give you eight bucks and a bus ticket and the cars are going way too fast and you can't cross the street -- and you're considering going into a motel and hanging yourself after carving your initials. And you know, there's not a lot of women my age who're single. If they're single it's because something happened -- or didn't happen -- so I started immediately dating women who were younger than me. That's a very strange dynamic. And from their point of view, it's like they're dating a dead person. It's like a corpse. That's how I see myself through their eyes."
Eva Longoria
Eva Longoria <a href="http://www.tmz.com/2010/11/16/eva-longoria-tony-parker-divorce-san-antonio-spurs-desperate-housewives/">filed for divorce</a> from NBA basketball player Tony Parker in November 2010 amid <a href="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20442932,00.html">rumors of his infidelity</a>. June 24, 2013 ? An NJIT research professor known for his cutting-edge work with carbon nanotubes is overseeing the manufacture of a prototype lab-on-a-chip that would someday enable a physician to detect disease or virus from just one drop of liquid, including blood. A new study describes how NJIT research professors Reginald Farrow and Alokik Kanwal, his former postdoctoral fellow, and their team have created a carbon nanotube-based device to noninvasively and quickly detect mobile single cells with the potential to maintain a high degree of spatial resolution.
"Using sensors, we created a device that will allow medical personnel to put a tiny drop of liquid on the active area of the device and measure the cells' electrical properties," said Farrow, the recipient of NJIT's highest research honor, the NJIT Board of Overseers Excellence in Research Prize and Medal. "Although we are not the only people by any means doing this kind of work, what we think is unique is how we measure the electrical properties or patterns of cells and how those properties differ between cell types."
In the article, the NJIT researchers evaluated three different types of cells using three different electrical probes. "It was an exploratory study and we don't want to say that we have a signature," Farrow added. "What we do say here is that these cells differ based on electrical properties. Establishing a signature, however, will take time, although we know that the distribution of electrical charges in a healthy cell changes markedly when it becomes sick."
This research was originally funded by the military as a means to identify biological warfare agents. However, Farrow believes that usage can go much further and potentially detect viruses, bacteria, even cancer. The research may also someday even assess the health of good cells, such as brain neurons. Since 2010, three U.S. patents, "Method of forming nanotube vertical field effect transistor," #7,736,979 (2010); "Nanotube device and method of fabrication" #7,964,143 (2011); "Nanotube device and method of fabrication" #8,257,566 (2012) were awarded for this device. In addition, more patents have been filed.
The device (shown in photo) utilizes standard complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technologies for fabrication, allowing it to be easily scalable (down to a few nanometers). Nanotubes are deposited using electrophoresis after fabrication in order to maintain CMOS compatibility.
The devices are spaced by six microns which is the same size or smaller than a single cell. To demonstrate its capability to detect cells, the researchers performed impedance spectroscopy on mobile human embryonic kidney (HEK) cells, neurons from mice, and yeast cells. Measurements were performed with and without cells and with and without nanotubes. Nanotubes were found to be crucial to successfully detect the presence of cells.
Carbon nanotubes are very strong, electrically conductive structures a single nanometer in diameter. That's one-billionth of a meter, or approximately ten hydrogen atoms in a row. Farrow's breakthrough is a controlled method for firmly bonding one of these submicroscopic, crystalline electrical wires to a specific location on a substrate. His method also introduces the option of simultaneously bonding an array of millions of nanotubes and efficiently manufacturing many devices at the same time.
Being able to position single carbon nanotubes that have specific properties opens the door to further significant advances. Other possibilities include an artificial pancreas, three-dimensional electronic circuits and nanoscale fuel cells with unparalleled energy density.

Two years ago, I was followed into a convenience store in northwest Detroit by two young men who were acting a bit too peculiar -- and paying me a bit too much attention.
They didn't do anything specific to raise my suspicion, but I've lived in big cities long enough to know when I ought to keep my eyes peeled. Something just didn't feel right.
